10 Staggering Importance of Learning English Language

English is the most commonly spoken language all over the world. As English has been playing a major role in almost every sector, it has become a truly international language and is considered as lingua franca. Today it is the first language of about 400 million people in 53 countries and the second language of as many as 1.4 billion more. Therefore, we can realize how important this English language is. Here are some reasons why the English language is so important to us.

Globalization:  

In today’s globalized world a great communication skill is a huge asset for an individual to compete against others. As English is the most widely used language nowadays, one must have expertise in English to raise his/her head above the crowd. Being able to communicate in English helps interact with your global colleagues as well as advance your career prospects. Every business with an international client base uses English language as the prime source of communication. A good knowledge of English along with strong interpersonal skills can not only get us employment in the business world but also brings a lot of opportunities for self employment as well. 

Science:

It is cliché to describe the importance of sciences. Just keep in mind that English is the most commonly used language in the sciences. Without it you will not understand most of the scientific terms. Nowadays most of the journals and articles about science are published in English. Even scientists from non English-speaking countries publish their works in English. In 1997 the Science Citation Index reported that 95% of its articles were written in English, even though only half of them come from authors in English-speaking countries.

Technology:

Technology is a blessing for mankind and it is making our day to day lives easier and easier. All the latest technologies are now at our fingertips but to be able to access this technology we need to develop English language skills. Just think about using a computer without English. You just cannot do that. Whether you are working with your computer, using your mobile phone or watching TV you will always need a minimum level of English language knowledge to use these things properly.

Business:

Success in business is often hinged on one single important word- communication; and most often it happens in English. In order to succeed in your chosen business field you need to make yourself completely understood by the people you work with. In this globalized world you have to interact with people from different countries and cultures. You will receive and send emails, have phone calls. If you are not good in English your emails would appear weak, the guy from the other side of the phone will find it difficult to understand your words. It may harm your business severely.  It is English which will help you to make your point faster.

Jobs:

Knowledge of English opens up a large number of employment opportunities in almost every business domain. If you can read and communicate in English well, it gives you an advantage over your competitors. So you have a greater chance of getting the job then them. Almost every employer expects his employees to have Basic English language skills.

International Relation:

English is important for maintaining international relation and communication. It is the language of diplomacy, international politics and meetings and conferences.

Internet:

In general, the universal language on the internet is English. Most of the information over internet is in English. Just think about searching for a topic in Google. If you can search using the exact English word Google will bestow you with information. Communicating via Facebook is also dependent on English. So to get access to this vast information, knowing English becomes a must.

Entertainment:

Like other sectors English is also dominating the entertainment industry. Most of the world’s best movies are made in English. There are many TV serials like Breaking Bad, Friends, and Game of Thrones which are considered classic by the critics and all of them are made in English. A good command in English means you don’t have to rely on subtitles to watch them.  So you can enjoy them thoroughly. Important games and sports like World Cup Football, Olympics, and Commonwealth Games etc. are telecast live and their commentaries are also broadcasted in English.

Travel:

If you travel to another country, either for business or as a tourist, you always need English to carry on. English being an international language and spoken by around 1.8 billion people all over the world, certainly can make your life easier when you travel abroad. Knowledge of English can let you communicate with people anywhere you travel.

Literature:  

If you are into literature, English literature offers you a huge collection. Many books which are trending in modern world are written in English. Besides if you want to read famous books from other languages, you have to take help of English. Most of the famous books if translated are first translated into English. So it is English language which will help you meet the literatures of the whole world.
